Project 2 : Week 5 Parameters
Workbook Parameters
Unlike last semester, you are not required to use a standardized binding method for your workbooks. Each student is allowed to choose an appropriate size, format, and binding method to present their worksheets. You can use the plastic spiral binding method from last semester if you prefer. However, I would like you to consider new and more innovative ways to display your exercises. Whatever method of printed presentation you choose, you must show this workbook in your advancement review. Control over craftsmanship and details are important skills to demonstrate in all materials presented at your review.
While I will accept inkjet printouts for the weekly worksheets you submit, I expect your to printout the final pages for your workbook using a Laserprinter and using a higher quality of bright white paper.
Finally, while I am leaving many options open to you regarding the binding of your workbook, I still consider Plastic-comb binding to be inferior in quality. If you choose Plastic-comb binding for your work it WILL negatively effect your grade.
3 Best Compositions Mounted on Presentation Board
Select 3 of your best compositions from weeks 1-4. Printout these compositions on high quality bright white paper and cut away the outer margins of your worksheets leaving only the 6.5 x 6.5 inch square.
Mount each of these compositions separately on a 8.5 x 8.5 inch piece of Black Presentation Board. (Not Black Foam Core or Black Matte Board.) Center each composition on its presentation board. Create a cover sheet for each board using tracing paper.
Finally printout a small label with your full name plus "A252 Typography 2, Spring 2005" onto a sheet of white paper and carefully glue it to the back of each board in the lower-right corner.
Pay close attention to the craftsmanship of your presentation boards. Roughly cut edges or misaligned printouts demonstrate a low degree of control over the details of your work. You will be showing this work in your advancement review, so don't be sloppy!
Final Color Poster Parameters
  • Based on your best work thus far, create a final color poster. The final poster size is 11 x 17 inches (in either horizontal or vertical format). Because the final poster is not a square, you will need to reorganize your type elements to get them to work in this new format.
  • Final posters MUST be in color. Students must print 2 copies of their final poster.
  • Mount one poster on a sheet of 14" x 20" of black presentation board (Not Black Foam Core or Black Matte Board.) Center the poster on the presentation board. Create a cover sheet using tracing paper. Printout a label with your name and course information and affix it to the lower right corner on the back of the presentation board.
  • The Herron Digital Print Center OKI printer will allow you to crop type or "bleed" color off the poster edges. Just ask for your work to be printed on the 12" x 18" paper. Of course you will have to carefully cut your poster down to 11" x 17" with an X-atco knive.
Archive Your Files & Prepare Written Statements
All students will be required to turn in electronic copies of ALL final project files at the end of the semester. Be sure to back-up your project 1 and project 2 files so you will have a copy when you need them at the end of the semester.
Once you have completed all the steps in project 2 and participated in critique, you will need to prepare another evaluation statement on your accomplishments during project 2. This is a rather lengthy assignment. It may be helpful to keep a journal of notes as you complete each of the weekly assignments. This might be helpful to refer back to at the end of the project to help you remember details as you are writing your statement.
